We are trying to figure out how to do this.

We have Ghost 11.5

Hey Nathan, I am working with these right now also. I am using SCCM 2012 and MDT and having lots of issues.

I have managed to install the Win7x64 from a USB key with most of the drivers but there are many that don't work. I am dealing with Panasonic Technical support to work through the issues.

To get your mouse driver to work you need to use DISM to install the drivers directly in the BOOT.WIM and the INSTALL.WIM files.

What is the DISM? I am very amateur when it comes to this. We just got a quote for getting the latest version of ghost.

I sure appreciate any help I can get.

I was going to do the MDT but it looks very complex: this is what Panasonic recommended to me.

Me also. I have just successfully imaged my first one using SCCM. Will be lots of tweaking to make it work the way I want but after the last few weeks I feel like I have accomplished some good things.

The driver package from Panasonic doesn't have quite everything it needs. I would be happy to share my findings once I document them out.

How many of these will you be doing? Feel free to say it is not an allowed question. I do realize police services may not want that type of info disclosed.

Did you purchase any of the desktop docking stations to help with imaging? The Panasonic FZ-VEBG11 is what we purchased. It helps although out of the box I had to update the tablet BIOS to recognize the docking stations PXE boot capabilities.

Its all public info, we are very transparent.

15 initially, with 40-60 in a second wave. We are waiting to get a little time with the first 15 before we buy the 40-60. Every county police car, city police car, EMS, Fire truck, etc. We have a failed system right now and have a lot of support for these. Ours have the Verizon and separate internal GPS, 8GB ram.

We have the Gamber-Johnson dock for a patrol car. I tried the Havis dock but we didnt like it.

I was hoping to image using a USB flash drive so that I can reimage a device in the car if possible.

I am sure others will be searching and find this thread so any info will be helpful to everyone :)

Have you all gotten the imaging of the Panasonic tablets working yet? I am having the same difficulties but with Windows8 and have now just built a couple images backed them up and restoring the image to each new tablet using the built in Windows Backup utility.. The long term issue is a restore of a backed up image takes about 5 hours from a external USB drive where a PXE boot and WDS image will transfer to a machine in under 40 minutes. I cant get my Panasonic FZ-G1 to PXE boot at all to the WDS server. Workstations yes, but tablets are a different breed altogether and are hit and miss. This Panasonic is miss all the way though. THANKS

You could try SmartDeploy for these devices instead of Ghost, FOG, or MDT. There are pre-built driver packages which allow you to apply a WIM to any device. These Toughbook machines are notoriously challenging from a driver perspective. I just looked and it doesn't appear that we have the pack for that exact computer but that is something the support team could provide as a post-sales task. We can usually make a pack remotely in under 5 business days but for this particular computer since they're so challenging we'd have the customer mail us the machine, we'd make / certify the pack and ship the device back. All the hard work is done for you as part of the services and support that come with SmartDeploy.

A couple other thoughts - for the MDT folks, SmartDeploy is easier to use but has similar core technology (WIM, Windows PE, DISM, etc...) that are leveraged. There is a free trial version that you can use and see if it does what you like. Additionally, it works seamlessly with WDS for those folks that like to PXE.

Spencer, I'm going to take you up on that offer. Can you contact me and let me know the next steps to get you guys a device to test?

Thanks!

Sounds great Wayne99! A couple suggestions to get the ball rolling:

1. Sign up for a live demo here. If that time does not work, PM me and I will setup a special GoToMeeting directly with you.

2. Check out the download page. If you read it through it will guide you on what to do. I really like the click-through-demo listed at the bottom of that page too. The trial is fully-functioning and any work that you do with it would carry over if you decide that you like it and want to move to a purchase.

If you have any questions at all, just let me know. Looking forward to working further with you.

I have this working with SCCM 2007 deploying Windows 7 x86. I use the Desktop Cradle with PXE. One thing to note - I had to include the USB 3.0 driver in the PE build to allow the mouse & keyboard to work.

I'll happily try and answer any questions :-)

hello everyone,

i have been working on these ToughPads for a little bit now and am having issues deploying the image using SCCM2012 SP1 CU2. I finally was able to figure out all the drivers and what is necessary in order to get it up and going. Essentially what i'm trying to do is create a thick image that has Office 2013 and all the applications/drivers installed with Windows 8. then capture it by a standalone WDS server and copying that WIM file over to my SCCM box.

We primarily deploy Dell machines and this Panasonic ToughPad is considered a 1-off to our core infrastructure. I have built a standard task sequence and imported that captured WIM file. Deployed the TS to all unknown computers collection with no maintenance windows. All clients are automatically approved setting is turned on. I have proper boundaries set. I get an error saying that this computer does not have a task sequence assigned to it. however if i image a new dell pc, i can see that task sequence i made for the Panasonic Toughpad.

Something is up with these ToughPad and SCCM thinks there is no task sequence available for it. However other machines can see it just fine. I'm wondering if there is a GUID issue where maybe a Dell machine or some other machine that is in SCCM is taking over the same MAC or GUID that these panasonic toughpads have.

I have Symantec helping us as nothing we have done yet seems to work. They are trickly little machines.

Installing everything by hand..getting old. Apparently there is an update coming in December for Solution Suite 3 that is supposed to fix many issues with modern tablet style devices.

I can see its been a couple days or so., but for those with USB boot issues.

If you are stuck with just the 1 USB port and cant boot to USB, nor prompt the boot popup menu or when using a hub, you need to turn off UEFI bios. This then lets you select a boot order in the more traditional manor, putting USB KEY first. This then saves the need to even tell the machine what device to look for. Mine is now up and running on our corporate build of Windows 7 x64. I'm sure this happens because the USB's were built with a bootcfg that doesnt support UEFI(?!?!).

Once out of UEFI mode you also get on screen touch buttons on the post page, seems a little counter intuitive to have more functionality in the older BIOS but hey, from which you can access the boot menu etc.

A colleague had looked at it for a long time and been through things with Panasonic to no avail. They were going to send an engineer out. Not sure how they didn't think to suggest it may be a BIOS compatibility issue.

im trying to figure this out from end to end to get this to work properly in sccm.

can you provide a more detailed explaination on what you did to make this work? in sccm it appears that the mac address of the docking station gets recorded instead of the actual toughpad....

I have had the same issue. When I try to PXE boot I am able to get to the WInPE environment but then it says that it cannot find any task sequences although I know there are. I was thinking it was an issue with the network card driver that is loaded into our boot image but I have tried a lot off different ones. I am still convinced that the driver is the issue but am not sure how to correct it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am using SCCM 2012 with PXE boot and built in LAN port option on the device.
